I originally wrote this song to James H. Billington (Librarian of
Congress) and Marybeth Peters (Register of Copyrights) in an attempt to
convince them to reopen the CARP
(Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel)
proceedings that will determine the compulsory licensing fees for
webcasters.
A lot has happened since Summer 2002 -- and now there's even more at stake. Due process is threatened when DMCA subpoenas are served to ISPs and private records are being turned over without anyone notifying the individuals being named -- and without filing a proper lawsuit (in which all parties would be required by law to be notified).
I'm so bored when I listen to my radio
I'm so tired when I'm watching my tv
I'm so sad when I think about the future of my country
James and Marybeth, can you find a place for me?
I know it's hard to do your job and make things work and
I know it's riskier to try new things
but I'm so scared of a world where I must ask to ask a question.
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?
I just want the chance to try it twice
I just want the chance to roll the dice
I just want the chance to know what's mine
I just want the chance to know
Oh how I hope you hear me
Because the whole world's watching
James and Marybeth, can you find a place for me?
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?
James and Marybeth, are you looking out for me?
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?
I just want the right to search and find
I just want the right to my piece of mind
I just want the chance to know what's mine
I just want the chance to not be
so so sad when I listen to my radio
So sick and tired of what I'm watching on tv
There's so much more that I could see and learn and know about my
future
James and Marybeth, can you help bring this to me?
I just want a chance to try it twice
I just want a chance to roll the dice
I just want a chance to get it right
I just want the right to stay and fight
I just want the right to search and find
I just want the right to my piece of mind
I just want the chance to know what's mine
I just want the chance to know
oh how I hope you're listening
because the clock is ticking
James and Marybeth, can you find a place for me?
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?
James and Marybeth, are you looking out for me?
James and Marybeth, can you help me to be free?
Because the whole world's watching
